Frequently Asked Questions
-
Will I get to meet the person who is looking after my dog/s?Yes your dog will attend a trial night or two home stay and you and your dog will meet either Angela or Matthew, prior to boarding or initial enrolment at Daycare.
-
Do I provide the food and treats?Yes, we are happy to cater for dogs on cooked diets provided it is cooked and put in small containers by owner, we can fridge / freeze this food if necessary. Owners provide all their own food and treats and should provide more than is necessary in case of travel delays, otherwise owners will be billed upon return for food we may purchase if not enough is supplied for the duration.
-
Do you home board such breeds as Bull Mastiff, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, German Shepherds, Rottweiler, Japanese Akita, XL Bullies and similar types of breeds? We do not home board any of the breeds mentioned above as our agreement with the local council Vet and our Pet Business Insurance does not cover us for such breeds. We cater for King Charles, Labrador, Golden Retriever, Gun Dogs, Failed Guide Dogs, Spaniels, Yorkshire Terrier, West Highland Terrier, Border Terrier, Beagles, Lhasa Apso, Shitzhu, Cockapoo, Papillion, miniature breeds, Labradoodle and such similar types of breeds, small to medium and some larger sized and suitable other cross breeds. All dogs are to be well behaved and well socialised and able to get along well with other dogs. Adult dogs in their prime should be neutered / spayed to use home boarding. We DO NOT home board any dogs who have an aggressive / destructive / dominate nature towards other dogs or people. If this has not been disclosed prior to boarding and is discovered during the boarding the dog in question will be removed from the boarding premises. Your emergency contact will be contacted first.
-
My dog is on medication; can I be assured he will receive this daily?Yes, medication will be administered as per your instructions.
-
My dog is still very young and we are currently doing crate training; is this still possible during the boarding?Yes, we are happy to have your own crate in our home and will adhere to your training routine. In many cases we insist on younger dogs being crate trained for bedtime purposes, so it is important you keep the same routine in practice prior to boarding. Also, if we need to pop out to shops, we would use a crate for young or mischievous dogs so they do not get into mischief, hurt themselves or damage our homes.
-
Can I get an update of how my dog is getting on whilst I am gone? The updates are provided on our Facebook Page which can be accessed by over 18yo only. Please visit our website and Click on the Facebook Link. You must have a Facebook account of your own in order to access this free of charge service. We endeavour to put photo updates on the Facebook page with a written report usually by the 2nd or 3rd day of boarding and at least once or twice a week where possible. Clients can interact with Angela on their Facebook Page. Please feel free to leave a 5 star review on the Facebook Page or Google if you have been happy with our service, it always makes our day to receive a glowing report – thank you!
-
Where will my dog sleep at night?Usually in our spacious doggy dormitory (if they can share with other dogs) or in our open plan kitchen / utility room / hall area of home. Dogs can choose which bed they have selected. However, they DO NOT sleep in our beds or bedrooms (on our first floor). Please make sure you have your dog in same routine as ours, preferably weeks prior to boarding, so we can "all" sleep at night.
-
Can my dog be off lead on walks?Yes of course, dogs who have a good recall and enjoy being free to roam and providing we have permission from you the owner, they will be allowed off lead in our safe areas. This will be discussed at your interview. Owners who request "Off Lead", do so at their own risk and will complete an off-lead permission sheet. Please note we do not take dogs off site for walks, they are free to exercise at their leisure on our expansive safely secured land.
-
Can my dog have his own toys, do I supply any other extras?Yes, you can provide one to three small toys, but keep in mind if there are other dogs in boarding at same time, dogs share toys and beds. Sometimes toys are destroyed during dog play or buried in the garden ! So please do not supply any toys that are sentimental or costly in value as you may not see them again. Please do not provide your old slippers or items of your clothing or life-sized stuffed dogs/toys. Upon collection of your dog, please make sure you have checked with your Carer that you have all your belongings and haven't left anything behind before you depart. We will provide dog poopy bags. Please let us know if there are any other extras you would like to bring along for their stay?
-
What vaccinations does my dog require in order to home board? All dogs who home board must be up to date with Booster and Kennel Cough Vaccinations. Kennel Cough takes 2 to 3 weeks to take affect prior to boarding. Dogs must also be up to date with Vet quality wormer and flea tick treatment. Evidence of Vaccinations are required to be sent or shown to Angela (to make copies) prior to boarding or daycare.
-
What happens if my holiday is cancelled shortly prior to boarding, will I get a refund? As explained in terms and conditions and service agreement, which you will receive on your dog's Registration Forms, payments are non-refundable for whatever reason, if adequate notice is given to allow us to rebook the space there may be part refund but as most people book their dog's holiday several months to a year in advance we do not expect to be able to rebook a space at short notice as there would not be adequate time for us to make arrangements, in which case no refund would be given. Most people have their own dog insurance cover so I would suggest that you check your own insurance / travel insurance policy as you may be able to recover boarding fees that way. If you have a sick or elderly dog who is due to board and you place your booking several weeks or months in advance, we will not be able to give a refund if your dog for whatever reason cannot come for the planned dog holiday as the place has been booked and reserved in advance for your dog and the we have guaranteed the dates to you. In many cases dogs can develop medical issues prior to boarding and can still come for their holidays, please discuss with Angela in this instance.
-
My dog is not neutered, is this a problem? For home boarding we require all adult dogs to be neutered (unless previously agreed) and females spayed. There are no kennels or separations and we do not want puppies or dominant behaviour nor marking territory on our furniture. Elderly dogs over the age of 10 or 11 years who are not neutered will most likely be acceptable as at that age there is less interest in the dog's desire to be Alpha and breeding instincts diminish. We will not accept any female dog into boarding who may come into season as this would cause problems within the boarding property and outside in our exercise areas.
-
Does my dog have to attend every day?No, it’s up to you to decide the number of days your doggy attends day care. Your dog will benefit most if it comes more regularly but some of our guests only come 2 or 3 times a month. Please let us know how many days you would like to attend during the week so we are able to accommodate you.
-
Do you accept all breeds? We do not accept restricted dogs as specified in regulations made under the Control of Dogs Act 1986 or amendments there to and in particular but not limited to breeds such as: American Pit Bull Terrier – English Bull Terrier – Staffordshire Bull Terrier – Bullmastiff – Dobermann Pinscher – German Shepherd (Alsatian) – Rottweiler – Japanese Akita – Japanese Tosa – Bando.
-
What if my dog becomes ill during their stay?We will try in all cases to use your veterinarian if your pet is feeling under the weather. If your veterinarian is not within close proximity of our day care we will use our veterinarian. You will receive a call in all instances of illness.
-
What will my dog do all day?Run! Play! Wrestle! Socialize with playmates, lounge around and talk the latest gossip with new friends!
-
It's my dog's first time - what do I need to bring? Please call for your interview appointment and bring completed application forms and current vaccination records.
-
I have a small dog, will they be safe? Some small dogs enjoy running about with the big dogs but just in case, we have a special area for the little ones to romp with his/her smaller friends. It is up to your dog if he/she wants to play with big or small dogs. We will never allow a dog of any size to be bullied.
-
My dog has special needs - will this cost extra? No most medications and dietary needs will be handled at no extra cost to you. If your pet requires injections this will be discussed with you during the interview process or by phone before applying. Pets with handicaps are welcome at day care and placed in an appropriate playgroup.
-
Do I have to commit to a schedule? We have a drop off and pick up schedule which needs to be followed to insure that our guests day is not disrupted. If your dog has already been a guest of the Play School, then we may be able to accept them at short notice subject to availability of spaces.
-
Where does my dog do its business? We expect our guests to have been exercised in the morning before they are dropped off. For during the day there are three outside areas which the dogs have access to.
-
Do you feed my dog during daycare? If you would like your pet to eat while at day care you will need to leave us their food/treats and let us know his/her feeding schedule. There is no extra cost to feed your pet while in day care.
-
